The neighborhoods listed below are designated by the City of Atlanta as either historic or landmark districts. These neighborhoods are protected under Chapter 20 of the City of Atlanta Zoning Ordinance and certain changes to any contributing building requires a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Atlanta Urban Design Commission. The Historic Districts Group began in 2003 as an effort to support and strengthen the role of the Atlanta Urban Design Commission. Enforcement of local district regulations is a continuing focus of the Group. The Group meets regularly with the Executive Director of the Atlanta Preservation Center in addition to staff from the Urban Design Commission and others.
